2012-SWEEEP: Indonesian Students Earn Medals International Science Olympiad

Six Indonesian students won silver and bronze medals in International Science Olympics, the International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering & Environment Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP 2012), which was held in Houston, USA, 3-6 May 2012.

It was announced in a press release the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday (08/05/2012). The six students, among others Aristyo Rizka Darmawan and Fuad Imran Makarim of SMA Kharisma Nations, Bantam. Both won a silver medal for the Environment category, with a research project entitled “Chitosan and Natural Colorant Uses as Textile Raw Materials Surface Modifications”.

Meanwhile, two other students, Dwi Astuti and Tisa Mahdiansari of SMA Al-Kauthar, Alabama, won the bronze medal in the Environment category. Their research titled “The Utilization of Dry Field Method By Using Trickle Irrigation Emitter With Coconut Fiber As”.

While for the Energy category, and the Christian Edwin Leonardo Ardianto Pranata of SMA Santa Laurensia, Alam Sutera, Tangerang, Banten, received a bronze medal. Their research project titled “Modification on a Centripetal Force Concept Based Vertival Axis Water Turbine”. Pranata Ardianto and also won another award in the field of Environmental Friendly Technology.

Medals and awards given on Sunday (05.06.2012) in the top of the Award Ceremony held at the George R Brown Convention Center, Houston. U.S. congressman, Sheila J Lee, delivered the keynote speech at the event.

The students accompanied by three teachers, Nur Wijayanto of Nations as well as SMA Charism and Tini Sujarwo Silvia Way of Al-Kautsar SMA.

Consul General in Houston Al Busyra Basnur present at the Award Ceremony and being handed a number of prizes and awards to the winners of the I-SWEEEP 2012 from several countries.

International Science Olympiad was held Harmony Public School, Houston, and supported by Cosmos Foundation. Olympics was followed by junior high and high school students from 68 countries and 44 U.S. states.
