Unilever Indonesia in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia held a competition for students titled Unilever Leadership Actions on Sustainability (ULAS). This competition aims to move students to develop and realize creative ideas to address social problems, economic, and environment that occur in society, especially in Jakarta and surrounding areas.
Leadership and Organization Development Manager of PT Unilever Indonesia, Indrijati Rahayoe say, the social, economic and environmental communities in Jakarta today requires serious attention. On that basis, it was moved to take precaution with how to develop and execute creative ideas from the students associated with the spirit of sustainability.
“It’s important to grow the spirit of sustainability from the outset. This competition is a small step in our efforts to establish and develop the mindset of sustainability among students as future leaders,” said Indrijati, in Megamendung, Bogor, West Java, on Thursday (26 / 7/2012).
Meanwhile, General Manager of Unilever Indonesia Foundation and chairman of the jury in Review, Sprott Kaniawati explained, the committee review the received at least 57 creative ideas from the students. Once selected by a panel of judges comprised of sustainability experts, eventually that number shrunk to 10 the best proposal that the three of them is the people’s choice.
“The next step is training in the U Camp. In which the participants are given a wide range of training on sustainability, leadership and so forth,” says Sprott.
After receiving a briefing on the U Camp, he added, the participants will be given financial assistance in accordance with the proposed funding proposal nominal maximum of Rp 20 million to run the program in the community for two months with the assistance of Unilever, University of Indonesia and NGOs related to the issues they raise .
“The program is community based, and can keep rolling as well as sustainable,” he said.
Review the results of the implementation will then be assessed by the jury to choose the winner. Criteria for assessment of the scale of the project, elaboration of ideas, motivation, innovation, relevance, feasibility of the idea, and long-term program.
